There are essentially three basic formats for resumes: functional, chronological and combination.
Functional Resume A functional resume organizes your experience and skills to highlight what is most relevant to the position you are applying for. In this type of resume you would take all of the tasks/skills from your previous jobs and organize them in 3 to 4 categories. The categories would vary depending upon the type of position you were applying for. This type of resume is used mainly when your work experience is not related to the position you are currently seeking.
Chronological Resume A chronological resume organizes and highlights your work history and experiences. This type of resume tends to be the most popular and is probably the easiest two create. You would want to use this type of resume if you have a great deal of experience and/or work history in the area you are applying for.
Combination Resume A combination resume, as the name suggests, is a combination of a functional and chronological resume. In this type of resume you create a skills section as well as a work history section. This type of resume is great for someone who is making a career change, has gaps in their work history or very little work experience |
