Choosing the Right School for You!
By: Tara Yuill
There are a number of ways that you can further your education. The most obvious is to go to college, but even that can look very different depending on where you choose to go.
Here are a few different ways you can choose to continue your education.
Universities
There are a variety of different Universities that you can choose from. Each university is known for having an area of study that they specialize in and not all universities offer the same types of courses. At a university you can earn a Bachelors or Masters degree. Many universities also offer Ph.D. programs as well as credentials and certificates in a variety of areas.
Junior Colleges
Junior colleges are designed to help students complete an Associates degree, prepare students to transfer to a university setting or to the world of work. They also offer a variety of certificates.
Vocational Schools
In a vocational school you are more likely to be working towards a certificate based upon a specific skill. They are typically shorter in duration (9 months or less) and very task oriented. Some examples of occupations that you might get trained in and possibly earn a certificate for are plumber, electrician, medical technician etc.
Distance Learning
With the ever-increasing use of technology distance learning is becoming more and more popular. Distance learning allows you to take courses at your own pace. The type of degree you can earn varies between the various schools. Distance learning is also becoming more prevalent even within the Junior college and university setting.
